Janet Brugos with Ice Tower and Maverick
“I paint with texture including handmade paper, fabric, lace, rope, string, found objects and puzzle pieces. I like to be able to reuse what I can to create art from recycled fragments of a previous life. I have taken quilts apart and used certain elements in my work. I believe that I use so many different types of materials to integrate what I have with my vision but also to be inclusive and experimental.” Janet Brugos

I will be showing Lake Merritt by Night and Hurricane plus an in-progress piece at a Pop Up Art event at the Marriott Oakland City Center, 1001 Broadway, Oakland on Friday, October 20, 2023. The show is open to the public in the Restaurant, Iron and Oak from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Brugos and two other artists from Gallery 2727 in Berkeley, Tiffany Conway and Maria Tuttle will have original work on hand to talk about and for sale. This show is a preview for a larger event December East Bay Open Studios to be held all across the East Bay December 2 and 3. In December Gallery 2727 will have the 3 of us plus 9 additional artists for an even dozen. Note the address: 2727 California St, Berkeley, CA. on December 2 and 3 from 11am to 5pm.

Launched and Released was done specifically for an exhibit 85 Years 85 Artists in 2014 at Menlo College, Atherton, California. Each artist was given a specific year. Mine was 1990. That was the year that the hubble space craft was launched and the year when Nelson Mandela was released from prison. It was also the year that the world wide web came into being.
